Surgical services
Dental surgery
Dental disease is one of the most common — and most overlooked — health problems in pets. Our dental surgery service covers everything from professional cleans to complex extractions, all under safe, monitored anaesthesia.
Why dental health matters
By age three, most dogs and cats have some degree of dental disease. Left untreated, bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream and affect the heart, kidneys, and liver — causing serious systemic illness.
Signs your pet may need dental attention include bad breath, difficulty eating, pawing at the mouth, drooling, or visible tartar build-up. Often there are no obvious signs at all, which is why we check teeth at every annual health check.
All dental procedures are performed under general anaesthesia with dedicated monitoring throughout. We use dental X-rays to assess tooth roots and bone that can't be seen with the naked eye.
What to expect on the day
- 1
Drop off
Bring your pet in fasted (no food from midnight the night before). We'll do a pre-anaesthetic check and run bloodwork.
- 2
Procedure
Your pet is anaesthetised, monitored throughout, and we perform a full oral exam, scale, polish, X-rays, and any extractions needed.
- 3
Recovery
Your pet recovers in a warm, quiet space with nursing care. Most pets go home the same afternoon.
- 4
Pick up & aftercare
We walk you through what was done, provide pain relief to take home, and call the next day to check in.
Free dental checks & second opinions
Free dental check
Not sure if your pet's teeth need attention? We offer free dental checks — a focused assessment of your pet's teeth and gums by one of our vets. Please note this is a dental-specific check and does not include a full physical examination.
Free second opinion
If your pet has been diagnosed with dental disease elsewhere and you'd like another perspective before proceeding with treatment, we're happy to provide a free second opinion on dental findings. Again, this covers the dental assessment only — not a full health check.
To book a free dental check or second opinion, simply call us or book online and let us know what you'd like. No referral needed.
What we offer
Professional dental clean
Ultrasonic scaling and polishing to remove tartar and plaque above and below the gumline, followed by a full oral examination.
Dental X-rays
Full-mouth radiographs to assess root health, bone loss, and hidden disease that's invisible on visual examination alone.
Tooth extractions
Removal of fractured, infected, or severely diseased teeth. We use nerve blocks for pain management and close extraction sites with sutures.
Oral mass removal
Surgical removal of benign or suspicious oral growths, with histopathology available to confirm diagnosis.
Pre-anaesthetic bloodwork
In-house blood testing before every procedure to ensure your pet is safe to anaesthetise and to tailor the anaesthetic protocol.
Post-operative care
Pain relief, antibiotics where needed, and a follow-up call the next day to check on your pet's recovery.
Fixed-cost dental packages
We grade dental disease at the time of your pet's pre-surgical assessment and quote you a fixed package price before the day. Every package includes general anaesthesia, dedicated nurse monitoring, dental charting, full-mouth X-rays when required, all consumables, local anaesthetic nerve blocks, and take-home pain relief where appropriate. Antibiotics and pre-anaesthetic blood testing are not included in the base price.
